I am currently headed into my 4th year as a biology student. During the summer I have found my interest lie elsewhere and want to get into computer science. I'd likely have to transfer to finish a CS degree because I can't afford USC's tuition. I believe financial aid will either run out or not be provided if USC believes I would take too long to graduate.

Therefore I would like to transfer schools, specifically I am looking to transfer into UC Davis because I live in the area and would be able to cut cost. However, after contacting UCD, they said it could be difficult to get in (very hard to contact and obtain useful information, they keep directing me to transfer requirement pages on the site, but those are not helping much).

My question is, has anyone else been in a similar predicament or what is the best path forward for me to obtain a CS degree?

Have you thought about minoring in CS at USC. And have you discussed this with your counselor and USC’s finaid office? It’s unlikely that you’ll be able to transfer because you probably exceed the number of upper division units you can transfer in.

I talked to advisors today. I likely won’t have financial aid for an additional year. I probably also can’t transfer as you mentioned because of my units.

I think best path forward may be for me to finish my degree while taking some CS classes then apply to UCD for a 2nd bachelor’s degree once I get the pre-reqs done. I think UCD requires me to attend a CC before entering, even as a 2nd degree student.

Does anyone have any input? I have abot 115 semester units so is switching to CS for my last year here and transferring basically not an option? I don’t want to be stuck with no degree and can’t transfer (can’t afford more than one more ear for USC). Or should I finish my degree in Bio and apply for 2nd bach?
