Transferring from Wharton

There’s been a lot of talk about transferring TO wharton from other universities on this forum…
What about transferring FROM wharton (Specifically the M&T program) to another top program at a different University, lets say Chicago Economics, Harvard Economics, MIT Engineering/ Stanford…
Is it hard, okay hard, next to impossible???
Danke

There's no a lot of transferring out going on but its definitely not impossible. To go to Harvard, UChicago etc, they would look for the same things they look for from other transferees--a high GPA in college as well as HS stuff. If you go to Wharton with thoughts of transferring out, you just need to keep your GPA high during freshman year. It will be signficantly easier to transfer from wharton which is in the same league than from another school which is ranked significantly lower. Also, it wouldn't be that hard to justify your reasoning--Wharton is all about training for the financial world while Harvard, UChicago place a lot more emphasis on econ theory.

"Wharton is all about training for the financial world while Harvard, UChicago place a lot more emphasis on econ theory"

you're bang on there aj...the only reason i'm even vaguely considering a transfer after first year, is if i end up not enjoying the business stuff etc..

any more opinions?

It might be hard justifying, though, considering Penn's prominent standings in economics.

I remember reading about transferring to top schools, and how most of them require you to provide strong academic reasons for your transfer. And, frankly put, if you can easily switch to Penn's college then they will question the academic reasons for transferring to their school.

I see what you mean snipanlol....so then
"Compared to getting in to M&T", how much harder would transferring out be
Is it harder/ a lot more competitive than making it as a freshman into M&T (which i hear is one of hte most competitive progs to get into at penn)
and what stuff do they look at most for transferring (apart from a good reason)...gpa/sats/ high school marks???
