Transferring High Schools

Hi, I’m an incoming sophomore at a catholic private school that I transferred to last year in December from a public high school when I was a freshmen there. As a little kid, I always went to a public school so this was the first time I went to a catholic private school. In the beginning, I wanted to transfer out of the public high school because I thought I was not learning anything and would do bad on my regents and I believe either I, my parents, or my tutor suggested I go to a catholic private school. So without thinking I liked the idea and transferred in however ever since I went there it was hard to fit in, make friends, or feel comfortable because everyone else knew each other and have their own friend groups. From the first day of transferring to the last day of school, I found myself very lonely and sad. This was the first time I ever felt like this from school, every morning I would hate going to school and not talk to anyone. I wasn’t able to be myself around them. Now that sophomore year is coming, I keep thinking on transferring back to the same public school I went to when I was a freshmen. But in my situation, it is very difficult and hard to do that. But if I do transfer back, will colleges accept me? And will they think of me transferring back to the same school as a bad thing??

Go back to the public school if you don’t like the private school. Don’t worry about what colleges will think. It is more important that you are happy. Being unhappy for 2 years is not worth it. Plus, it really should not affect your college chances as long as your grades are good.

I agree with @easyalesseffort. I don’t see this as likely to cause any problems regarding your chances at university. I think that you should go to a high school where you will be happy.

If you are happier in high school, then you are likely to get better grades and participate in more ECs. This could improve your chances at admissions to good universities.

Don’t worry about it…colleges might hink “oh, they couldn’t afford it anymore” or “oh, they might not have gotten the classes they wanted” or “Oh, they might want more access to activities/clubs”

So when you get back to your old school, take the highest level of classes you can (honors if possible) and do well in them.

If you aren’t happy at your high school and it’s feasible, transfer back. Transferring won’t affect your chances, I think.
