Hey guys, this is my first post on here so go easy as I am a newbie.

I am applying to transfer to Texas Tech for the spring semester 2014. I am currently enrolled in a local community college for the spring semester. Now, here is where it gets tricky. I went to a local university my freshman year and, while it definitely wasn't a good fit for me academically, I did very poorly my first year. My GPA is like a 1.7 from there and I was placed on dismissal so I couldn't attend this semester, hence the community college. I calculate that if I make all As at the community college (which I am at the moment), along with my classes from the other university, my GPA will be over a 2.0, which is enough to get admitted at TTU.
I am curious, has anyone else successfully transferred in the middle of the year? Under the advice of the transfer counselors at TTU, I am not submitting my transcripts until the one from the CC is available after finals in December which I need to have a high enough GPA. I am submitting a very polished transfer essay, along with 3 recommendation letters which will hopefully improve my chances of being accepted, and the counselors think I should be able to get accepted. I mean, I've travelled up to TTU and talked to them in person, showed my transcript from previous university and was 100% honest, but I want to know if I am missing anything here? Am I "pushing it" and trying something unfeasible when I should wait until next fall?

If it helps, I am transferring because I cannot stand being in my hometown anymore. Not to mention, I tried the "work part time and do my basics at hometown school", and it REALLY did not work for me, I desperately need to get out of here and do my own thing and have a good college experience.
