I’m a current second-year student looking into transferring into electrical engineering at the University of Texas from an EE major at the University of Michigan. How difficult is transferring into the Cockrell School of Engineering? I feel I have a pretty strong background but I’m worried I could still be denied. I have a 3.6 GPA here on 41 credit hours at Michigan (89 including AP credit), pretty good extracurriculars but no leadership positions in them, and a large merit scholarship from the school. Do I likely have a good chance of being admitted?
Chances would be slim to none. UT is a school that reserves 90% of their admissions for Texas residents. Even then it’s ridiculously competitive with at or near a 4.0.
Ah well thank you for being honest. I’m a Texas resident and had previously been accepted into Cockrell without auto admission coming out of high school. We’ll see how it goes.
My son is currently an Electrical & Computer Engineering major at Rowan University. He has a full tuition merit scholarship His High School GPA is 3.93; 1450 SAT; 3 5’s on his AP Physics & Cal exams and currently has a 3.87 at Rowan. He wants to transfer to a more challenging program and stumbled upon University of Texas. Since their transfer rate is low, I was wondering if it’s even worth spending the $85 application fee. I am trying to convince him to stay at Rowan (for FREE) and once he obtains his Bachelor’s then spend the money for a school like this for his Graduate degree–any thoughts?
