Transferring into Dual Degree after freshman year

Hi all,

I applied Penn ED for Vagelos LSM 1st choice, CAS 2nd choice. I didn’t get into LSM but I got into CAS; However, Vagelos LSM was and is still truly my dream program that I want to attend.
Any advice or comments for people like me planning to transfer (*and in my case, reapply) to the dual degree program after freshman year at Penn? Anyone know how hard it is to do a successful transfer to a rigorous dual degree program like LSM? (which only has a cap of 25 kids). I am open to all the comments I can receive.

Thanks.

@fcm951 I got into the M&T dual degree program ED but if I had not I would have tried after freshman year for sure. My interviewer did not get into M&T and was even waitlisted for SEAS before getting in. He said he took all the same classes an M&T student would have freshman year and did well and then applied again the end of freshman year and got accepted. He said many kids give up after not getting in so all the better for those committed to trying. I think that would show them dedication. I say go for it!

I hear it is a tough program, so some students may switch out. That can open more seats for transfers. It would be good to investigate the transfer requirements: courses, gpa, research, essays, etc. It varies by program.

I understand that some special programs are a bit more flexible with the number of transfers admitted, depending on the quality of the applicants.

Thank you @girlcoder and @Much2learn for your insights!

Fro what I ve heard, you need to have an extremely high gpa (3.8+) to have a decent chance.
