How hard is it to transfer to an Ivy league after freshman year? What if your high school grades are not good enough but you have excelled enough in your first year of college? Is there any leniency?

It's very difficult, especially for just someone who has only finished in his or her first year in college and has poor high school grades. This goes for any school in basically the top 25, not just Ivies.

it depends on the ivy you are talking about. Harvard and Yale's acceptance rates hover around 3 percent. So, odds of getting in is extremely slim unless you are truly amazing. Princeton does not take any transfers. Brown and Dartmouth's acceptance rates hover around 7 to 8 percents, but vary every year. Not sure about Penn and Columbia, but I bet these are really hard as well. Cornell - depends on the college you apply to. But, if you didn't do well in h.s., it certainly will hurt you a lot esp. since you apply to transfer for Sophomore year.
