Transferring masters programs

I am currently doing a masters with a research thesis in a physical science, but I want to move out of the area due to personal reasons. Also I am sick of research. Is it possible for me to transfer to a course work only masters at a different school? Will my current professors be offended if I asked for a letter of recommendation for the new place ?

Does your current program not have a coursework-only Masters? many of them do as a terminal degree. If that is not the case, I am sure that your professors would understand if you explain that you really want a professional degree and not a research one.

My current school does, but I also want to move to a different area for personal reasons. I was hoping to transfer to a school there. You dont think my professor would write that I have a commitment issue ? Would the new school think that ?

I guess it depends on what your relationship is with the professor and how you explain the reasons for your switch. Consider this, however, if this is your second year you don’t have too much to do to complete the MS at your current university. It might be better to just finish up and get on with your life sooner instead of starting over and likely delaying completion.
