Transferring Midyear

Would anyone be able to tell me if it is possible to apply as a Spring semester transfer student to UPenn or Cornell (Spring 2008) if I apply over the summer/next fall? I couldn't find any information on either of their web sites about this.

You will need to call them, but most of the more selective schools only do fall transfer. Why are you not applying now for a fall transfer?

I only had a 3.67 GPA from WUSTL after last semester, and I was going to try to raise it before applying

The word "only" should not apply to a 3.67 GPA. It is excellent.

I know for a fact that Penn only takes Fall transfers. I think Cornell may do mid-years though...

i would apply for this upcoming fall...you have until march 1st probably, and a 3.7 from WUSTL is very good...i think you have a great shot at Cornell, and even Penn, and if you get rejected, you can always apply again

I don't know about UPenn, but you can enter Cornell as a spring semester transfer. I'm one myself. I'll be entering spring 07. I don't think you can apply as early as the summer, however, because when I applied, the updated transfer application wasn't even available until sometime in October. Spring deadlines are usually in early November, with notifications arriving in early to mid-December. So, what I'm saying is that you probably can't submit an actual transfer application until October 2007 if you plan on entering in January 2008. I hope this answers your question. Since I've gone through the Cornell transfer process, feel free to ask any questions. I'm leaving for Cornell tomorrow; wish me luck!

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I think you have a great shot at both Cornell and Penn.

jca, Congratulations on your acceptance and good luck at Cornell. Who knows, maybe we'll be classmates one day. My concern about transferring midyear was that I heard that if you are rejected for fall transfer, you have very little chance of getting in the next spring. If this is the case, I wanted to try to make my GPA more competitive before applying (playing varsity football in the fall + working in a lab + adjustment to the difficulty of college = probably not my finest performance). Thank you
