Hi i just wanted to know if i have a realistic shot at getting accepted to Rutgers in the spring. I would be applying in-state, i have an associates degree in computer science from a NJ community college. My GPA is close to a 3.0 give or take, i took a class thats not part of my major where i got a C.

Thank you for any feedback~

I know most if not all community college have a general agreement with Rutgers if you maintain a 3.0 throughout the semesters you can get admitted but since my gpa fluctuated the first year i didn't bother to do it. Also i don't know if this would make a difference but i don't plan on applying for financial aid.

No, financials have no bearing on admissions decisions.

I think that your stats should be good enough to get in, but I’m not aware of any such agreement between CC’s and RU that would guarantee such. What I believe you’re referring to is the recent law requiring NJ public schools to accept all CC credits, which will knock out your general education requirements (and then some).

As I mentioned in my thread (below this), the SAS, which you’d be a part of if you continue with computer science, has yet to meet its enrollment limit, so that shouldn’t stop you from getting in.

…but to get back to your original question, yes I believe you will get in.

okay well that makes me feel a little better knowing i have a chance, thank you.

Also this is what i was referring to:
Transferring to NJ state colleges

Graduates of approved transfer programs in New Jersey County Colleges “shall be guaranteed admission to a state college,” according to state policy. While admission is guaranteed to a state college, rather than a specific school, experience indicates that students, who work closely with a RVCC Transfer Counselor when selecting their courses and have achieved a competitive grade point average, gain admission to the state college of their choice

Transfer (Articulation) Agreements

RVCC has Transfer (Articulation) Agreements with a the following colleges and universities. This listing of Colleges and Universities does not represent articulation for all degree programs. For detailed information on specific programs for a particular school, make an appointment with a Transfer Counselor in the Advising and Counseling Services Department (908) 218-8860.

it’s a little broad so i’m not really sure :/

Hi, I applied to Rutgers as a transfer student with a GPA of 3.0 and I also got a C in a class I did not need to take but I also got some C’s in a class I had to take because I was working full time and it was a bit of an overload.
Anyways I did get accepted to Rutger, as a matter of fact I got accepted to ALL 3 campuses. I had a killer essay and I am going to assume it had something to do with my acceptance. I am super excited. I do think you have the chance to get in. Have confidence and work on a great essay.

Just curious how many credits did you transfer with? Did you have an associates degree when you transferred? Yeah i have a few C’s that are part of my major and a few screw up that i had to fix but my GPA accumulated to a 3.0.

I realize I may be posting this message quite late considering the date of some of the messages. However, I figured it may help other Rutgers transfer students who may stumble upon this page…

Rutgers does offer partnerships with the following community colleges offering degree completion in a select number of programs. Admission requirements are comparable to that of on campus, however off campus programs are exclusive to transfer students with an associates degree or 60+ credits.

Atlantic Cape CC (Atlantic City/Mays Landing Campus)
Brookdale CC (Western Monmouth- Freehold Branch Campus)
Mercer CC (West Windsor)
Raritan Valley (North Branch Campus)

It may be more convenient to earn your Rutgers degree if there is a partnership site near you :)
