Transferring out from top schools

Hey everyone,

Out of curiosity (and perhaps because you never know...), what would a Harvard, Yale, Stanford, or MIT student's chances be when transferring to a school like UChicago or Columbia?

I think that what you are talking about here is transferring BETWEEN top schools.

In the case of Chicago and Columbia, though, I wonder if the Core would present some difficulty? I have no idea whether transfers are expected to complete the same core courses, or if they can be granted credit for some depending on what they took at their original school.

haha you’re right. Chicago, especially, is so underrated. I meant in terms of admit rates and selectivity.

I don’t plan on transferring (unless I absolutely hate it) but I’m pretty sure that if one were to take a balanced course your freshman/sophomore years you should be fine. Maybe add on a couple classes at your new school.

I know of successful transfer stories from Harvard. One of my buddies went to Harvard and excelled with a 3.74 GPA, but the overachieving academic environment was not his style and he wanted more to college. He sent in a few applications and was accepted to one of his top choices UPenn Wharton but chose the University of Miami for many reasons including a full ride.

How are internationals asking for aid perceived in the transfer game?

I transferred out from a top 4 LAC to a top 10 university
