Hey guys, I was hoping to get a Bachelors in IT but most colleges don’t even offer that kind of degree. The closest thing I have found is a degree in Computer Information Systems. I feel like with that kind of degree I will miss out on a lot of the technical courses required for database/network administration and just have a bunch of useless business courses. Does anyone know if employers like seeing people with CIS degrees and what kind of jobs I can get with one? Also if anyone knows college with an excellent CIS program within a few states of New Jersey could you list them?
My GPA is 3.9 so I am trying to get into an above average program/college.
What do the people in your own department tell you about this? Surely you aren’t the first AAS in IT to finish that program and transfer to a 4-year program.
You also should have a meeting with the Transfer Advisor at your CC. That person’s whole job is to help people find good places to finish up their degrees - especially students with top GPAs that may be able to land serious merit money when they transfer on.
I met with a transfer adviser and he was absolutely useless. All he gave me was some contact info for admissions people at NJIT. I think he doesn’t get students with a high GPA trying to transfer into a good college often. I am going to meet with another professor who is in charge of our Phi Theta Kappa chapter since she has many students who go onto Ivy Leagues.
