Currently I’m a freshman at UW-Seattle but I’m thinking of transferring to a UC after my second year. I’m a California resident and I’m thinking long term, I want to be back in California after college. So… how hard is it transferring to a UC from an out-of-state four year college, even though I am a CA resident?? My average GPA will be about 3.67ish at the end of sophmore year.
I’m really nervous about transferring back down, will I get back in?
It depends on which campus you’re targeting and if you’re major is impacted or not.
The hierarchy for transfer into UC’s/CSU’s is as follows:
CC>UC/CSU
UC>UC; CSU>CSU
CSU>UC
CA resident coming from OOS/private>UC/CSU
OOS resident coming from OOS/private>UC/CSU
You’ve got a decent shot, as long as you are extremely careful with your current class selection to fulfill the rigid transfer requirements. Of course, much will be predicated on how many other students are looking to transfer in your year, as well as the campus and the major. Since you don’t know until you try, may as well give it a go.

that should help you determine the GPA you will need to make the move. As long as you take the right classes and maintain you 3.7ish GPA you should be a competitive applicant for most programs at most UCs. You should note though, UCs are fickle so, apply to several.
If this is your goal though, why waste the money on OOS tuition at UW?
The problems are not only application and admission, but also when you get there, some of the credits you earned in UW may not be accepted by UC. With the current crunch on UC class selections shortage, you may have to delay graduation for a year or two. If you want to save money, that might not be desirable.
