So I'm in the crappy position of recieving an offer for Stern. If anyone got anything in another building and wants to trade I'd be eternally grateful. Doubt this will get any replies but I'm just throwing it out there.

Any tips on getting a housing transfer? And in case I'm stuck there all year, anything nice about Stern besides the cleanliness?

Live with it. I'm going to be in Stern (like you, not by choice), and I've already met several other girls in Stern. They're amazing kids and its going to be fun to live with them. College is what you make of it and this is just another opportunity to thrive in an environment that you never planned for!

So whine about it for another day, and get over it. Then think about the parties that you're going to go to at Bowles if it makes you happier. :D

i toured stern on calday and it really wasnt that bad. the rooms are bigger than the units and the bathroom was clean. dont worry about what people say about it or the reputation it has. It's up to you to turn it into a good experience.

It is only the first year and now u have the option of spleeping and studying in a peaceful environment or other things you may want to do. Not to mention there are busses that run from there to other parts of the campus.

thanks for the helpful comments. i'm sure berkeley will still be great if i have to settle for stern.

do the buses stop very close to the buildings and can/do people take them at night? [in case you end up in the units or somewhere at an ungodly hour]

Yes, Stern is generally not as fun as the units, but like previous users have said, it's what you make of it. If you keep being upset about it, then you will end up having a not-so-fun experience.

you can switch to a different dorm you just have to wait until their is an opening. Just call the housing office an a weekly basis... one of my friends did this and she transferred to unit 3.

lomeg, did your friend call the housing office when school started or during the summer? I've asked if I can get on waiting lists but they say the only thing I can do is accept the offer at stern and then try to transfer on move-in day (which I will do if nothing else comes up before then) Anyone know how hard it is to transfer on move in day or anything about stern?
