transferring q's

Hey guys, i have some questions.
do you know when one is supposed to transfer?
Like do ppl who end up at a school thats not their first choice, do they transfer after 2 years(60 credits) or less than 2 years, like first yr?
Because im thinking i will end up at a safety school, but im planning on transferring later on to the reach school, when should one transfer?

Some ppl tell me transfer asap, is that possible? Dont you need to build up your college resume at the safety school if your at one?

At MIT they have told me you would basically need to start over if you stay for two years, so that would mean someone who is supposed to graduate in class of 09 would graduate in class of 10?

What are the statistics for acceptance of transfers for mit? Should I match up the curriculum offered at mit the first two years at my other school, while im in the process of transferring?

For transfers, do they need to take the SAT, etc as well?
Is there anything we should do during college, i.e. science fairs, olympiads, study abroad to increase our chances?

The site with information about MIT transfers can be accessed from the main [Admissions site.

MIT accepts transfers only after they have completed a full year at their initial school -- ie one would apply for the transfer during one's sophomore year at the initial school, and would attend MIT the next year.

And yes, since you usually end up losing a year in the transfer process, someone who would have graduated in 2009 at the initial school would graduate from MIT in 2010.

Definitely try to replicate the MIT freshman curriculum during the first year at the initial school.

They recommend that you take 2 semesters of college calculus, 2 semesters of physics, and one semester each of chemistry and biology.

Transfer admissions are quite a bit more competitive than freshman admissions; the common</a> data set](<a href="http://admissions.mit.edu%5DAdmissions%5B/url">http://admissions.mit.edu) for last year indicates that 6 of 302 applicants, or about 2%, were admitted.

Transfers do need to take the SAT I and SAT II subject tests:

Also, just to put it out there, the stats are pretty grim for transfers. The past few years have seen only single-digit admits from the transfer pool. Wish I had better news. :/
