transferring q's

Hey guys, i have some questions.
do you know when one is supposed to transfer?
Like do ppl who end up at a school thats not their first choice, do they transfer after 2 years(60 credits) or less than 2 years, like first yr?
Because im thinking i will end up at a safety school, but im planning on transferring later on to the reach school, when should one transfer?

Some ppl tell me transfer asap, is that possible? Dont you need to build up your college resume at the safety school if your at one?

At Duke they have told me you would basically need to start over if you stay for two years, so that would mean someone who is supposed to graduate in class of 09 would graduate in class of 10?

What are the statistics for acceptance of transfers for mit? Should I match up the curriculum offered at mit the first two years at my other school, while im in the process of transferring?

For transfers, do they need to take the SAT, etc as well?
Is there anything we should do during college, i.e. science fairs, olympiads, study abroad to increase our chances?

I would say the best time to transfer would be after your first year. I think that's when most of the people transfer into Duke... You need at least one year of credit to apply as a transfer, and they'll take no more than two years of transfer credit toward your Duke degree. As for whether you'll have to "start over," I'm not sure. I would look at this site to help you answer questions about graduation requirements, etc.: http://pmac.aas.duke.edu/trail/transfer/
