transferring q's

Hey guys, i have some questions.
do you know when one is supposed to transfer?
Like do ppl who end up at a school thats not their first choice, do they transfer after 2 years(60 credits) or less than 2 years, like first yr?
Because im thinking i will end up at a safety school, but im planning on transferring later on to the reach school, when should one transfer?

Some ppl tell me transfer asap, is that possible? Dont you need to build up your college resume at the safety school if your at one?

At schools like MIT they have told me you would basically need to start over if you stay for two years, so that would mean someone who is supposed to graduate in class of 09 would graduate in class of 10?

What are the statistics for acceptance of transfers for mit? Should I match up the curriculum offered at mit the first two years at my other school, while im in the process of transferring?

For transfers, do they need to take the SAT, etc as well?
Is there anything we should do during college, i.e. science fairs, olympiads, study abroad to increase our chances? Do we only stick to keeping a 4.0 in college, or do we need to be involved in many college activities, etc while we are there

Also, very important thing on my mind, does one at a school ranked in number 50 by US News has a better chances of getting into a higher school than someone who has gone to a school ranked 175 by the same magazine, in other words does the safety school you go to make a difference, cause i heard the first two years are the same, and the curriculum must be the same two even if one school is ranked 50 and the other 175?

Also, is it bad to apply after two years, more than 60 creds? Is it possible? And how many schools should one apply as transfer, and do they have different dates? Do you need to have an interview for transfer?

Admissions officers probably won't care that much about ranking. Just do your best in your current school, and you should be fine. MIT, however, is a little bit tricky. Getting all A's is certainly not enough to get admitted. Last year, they only accepted 6 students out of 302 applicants, most of which, I am sure, were already top students at the school from which they're applying.

So really people only have a chance as freshman, transfers is extremely competitive??

It really depends on the school. Some schools want their transfer students to have completed less than two years while others encourage you to graduate with an associates before transfering, if you are going to a CC.

A lot of schools won't accept more than 60 credits, and if you've taken more than 2 years of college before transferring it may hurt your chances.

Know where you want to transfer to, get in touch with their admissions and ask questions. Research, research, research.
