Hello,
I am currently attending community college (IVC) and want to transfer to either NYU, Pace, Notre Dame, Northeastern…(the list goes on). I’ve been reading that prestigious private schools require a highschool transcript as well…is this true? If so does it depend on the university itself? I am worried because I had a low highschool GPA (3.3…I missed a lot of school because I was sick throughout the years)…I am worried that this will lower my chances to attend any of these universities.
Check with the Admissions at each school. The website will probs tell you what they require.
Don’t worry.
When you send your transcript, it’s okay to also send a quick note, if you wish, of no more than 3-4 sentences long, explaining your situation in a cool, mature way. That note (and any other of substance) will go into your file and become part of your story when they consider your application.
Note also that most colleges from what I’ve heard and read weigh your CC transcript more heavily than your high school transcript. Many weigh it exclusively and don’t care about your high school situation. Individual colleges vary.
Best of luck.
Check the requirements of each school but many will require your HS transcript, particularly the schools you listed. Your GPA is really low for the schools you are interested in so it will be important to have the situation explained. You should speak to your former high school college counselor about filling out the recommendation form for you and discuss your experience during high school. If this was not a documented illness or the counselor was not aware of what you were dealing with, it will be difficult for the counselor to assist you there. If you are now doing well both medically and in school, it would be good to point out in your app how your situation has improved and what you have done to overcome your situation so that colleges know you will be able to succeed at school and not have the same scenario occur in college. Best of luck to you.
