Transferring Schools: Will it change anything later on?

Hi!

I’m currently an 8th grader in a public middle school. However, I really dislike this school, and plan on transferring. However, I would like to possibly attend a prep school starting in sophomore year. Will transferring schools mid-year alter my chances of later getting into a prep school? I don’t know if that’s a dumb question, but there’s an inkling of doubt in my mind.

Thank you!

@salembarracuda I dont think there is a
clear answer to your question. When you apply for 10th grade admission, I would imagine that your freshmen year experience would be the most important part of your application. (your classes, recommendations, EC’s etc)
None of our kids attended the same middle school all three years.(some were homeschooled through middle of 7th, some we moved states before 7th and 8th. All applied as Freshmem and were accepted to BS.

To @salembarracuda - you may want to think about applying to BS as a repeat 9th grader. Also we met several students on our tour of Groton who were repeat 8th graders (there is an 8th grade year, very small size). You would be surprised by how many repeat 9th graders there are at BS. Don’t worry - just find the best fit for you! B-)

I can confirm that last part. There are a lot of repeat 9th graders at PA, and having completed 9th grade already, they have the advantage of being placed in higher classes early on.
