transferring schools

I'm currently a freshman at Bucknell. I hate it. I plan on transferring in the spring. The aspects here I don't like are how dominating Greek life is. The school says 50% of students are greek, but it feels like 90%. I like to party/drink but I don't want to have my only options on the weekend as a frat house. I also hate the location (middle of nowhere), which makes frat parties even more important since there's nothing else around. The fact that I haven't made any "good" friends adds to my unhappiness.

The schools I've applied to so far are Penn State main, Uni of Delaware Honors, and George Washington. I think GW is my first choice, if I can get in. I know greek life is big at PSU, but it's such a big school that I feel like there will be other options for parties. I know there are a lot of house/apartment parties, which Bucknell lacks because off campus housing sucks.

Any advice on these schools or others to look at? My major is environmental studies and political science. Bucknell was my first choice so it's hard to trust my judgement on other colleges to transfer to.

Maintain your GPA (hopefully its above a 3.5) and transfer into UNC-CH. They give in-state status to transfers. Never look back.

^ Are you sure about that Slipper? I know UNC meets need (which may not help a family with high income or assets) but I can’t find anything about being considered in-state. This set of quick facts for transfers implies they do not. http://admissions.unc.edu/pdf/UNC_Transfer_QuickFacts.pdf

Keep up the GPA if you want to have good options. Agree that 3.5 is needed and especially if aiming for GWU. You need to join a couple clubs as well. Find something that you will enjoy in the meantime and will show evidence of involvement at your current college. Maintain good relationships with all instructors/profs --they will need to sign your rec form saying that you are a qualified student, and note your grade in their class (mid-year report on Common App.). Also, be sure to stay in contact with your high school counselor. They will have to resend your rec and secondary school report forms. You need just one high school teacher rec now, so choose your strongest recommendation/contact at HS.

That would be incredible if UNC CH actually offers that to transfers. Have no idea. Also, not all schools accept spring transfers, so do your homework.

Set up your Common App. account (you have to open a new one for this year), everything from last year was deleted, so find out all deadlines for spring transfer vs. fall transfer. Good luck!
