transferring schools

The school that I attend now doesn't offer the major I wish to pursue. I'm hoping to start at the new school next fall. However, the transfer deadline for the school I wish to attend is May 1. However, my final second semester grades won't be finalized. Does the school only look at your first semester grade? How does this work?

Most school will likely want your high school records too.

I did poorly this semester and I really wish to bring my GPA up during the spring semester.
The problem is that the deadline is before second semester grades are finalized. Are my second semester grades not averaged out with my first semester grades?

Just like when you applied to college the first time, they will look at your HS grades and your grades from this semester when making the preliminary admissions decision. You will need to send your final grades from the second semester after it ends, and they may rescind an earlier offer of admission based on those grades. Since you know the specific place you wish to apply to, it is perfectly fine for you to contact them directly, and ask the best way to get your second semester grades to them in a timely fashion.

so when making preliminary decision, the school doesnt look at my second semester grade at all?

Tell them that you’ve made improvement in second semester and give them an estimate of when you expect those grades to be finalized and sent.
