Transferring Schools

As a person going in as an engineering major in Vtech, how hard is it.to transfer to schools with better engineering programs after one year? I’m thinking of uc berkeley, georgia tech, ir just unis thats not as isolated as vtexh, but has better engineering programs

Very hard as UCs have an obligation to California junior college grads & may not accept transfers for sophomore year.

But if you get stellar grades, it may be worth a try to some schools.

It is not wise to enroll in one school with the intention of transferring after a year. Be happy that you were admitted to Virginia Tech’s engineering program.

If you don’t want to go to VT then don’t start there. It is pretty bad to start your first year thinking that you will be transferring. If VT is really not what you want, then take a year off and apply to the schools you really want to go to. If you already applied to those schools and did not get in, then be realistic in assessing whether you will be able to get in to them as a transfer student where the admission rates are lower and you already have been rejected once.

VT has a fine engineering program and you can get an excellent education there but you won’t if you start with the attitude that you don’t want to be there.
