Transferring Schools?

I currently go to school at Arizona State University and after not landing a job with their baseball program (which was one of the main reasons why I came here) I'm looking to head back East and go to school in Florida (I live in NY and my mom really wants me to go to a school closer to home after I was rushed to the hospital this weekend for dehydration).

I love going to ASU and really have no reason to transfer besides me wanting to have a job with the baseball program at whatever school I'm attending. I'm trying to become a sports agent for baseball players which is why this is very important for me.

So my question is how hard is it to transfer schools to start your sophomore year? I'll most likely have to live on campus to make new friends. I'd rather live in my own apartment like I was going to here in Arizona, but I obviously don't want to live by myself and it'd be much harder to make friends. So for those of you who have transferred schools, please tell me your experience and whether you'd still transfer schools or not.

Note: I love going to school at ASU. So there isn't too many reasons for me to transfer and I don't want to regret my decision.

If that’s your only reason for transferring, make sure you know you will have that job before transferring.

^I agree. There is no guarantee that you’ll land a job within the baseball organization at another college. Obviously, having such a job is also no guarantee of becoming a successful Sports agent.

Sit down with your academic advisor and discuss your career ambition. I don’t think changing schools is the answer unless you are transferring to a school that has a sport’s major specific to your career plan. What is your current major? Are you in a Sport’s Management/Administration type major? Are you studying business? Do you plan to go to law school?

Yea I would never transfer unless I knew I was getting that job and the job i’m looking is a student manager position which is quite a hefty position. I know here at ASU they actually give you a full ride starting your junior year if you land it. I had an interview for the position during my orientation but then ASU’s baseball program got caught with recruiting violations and most of the staff was let go (including the person I had the interview with), so I pretty much got screwed.

I’m currently majoring in management, which was one of the other big reasons why I came to ASU (great business program). But from what I’ve read, FSU has a very good business program as well. I also do plan on going to law school, hopefully somewhere in California, which is yet another reason why I came to ASU (short move to Cali).

Don’t transfer. You love the school, and you can always try to get the position next year.

Transferring schools sucks. Do not transfer unless you have nothing to lose. Trust me, if you love your school, you have a LOT to lose.

I would have to agree with the above posts. If that’s your only reason for transferring I would be hesitant to do it. I don’t know anything about sports management or w/e you’re interested in, but if you like ASU I would generally suggest not transferring (again, given the very limited information provided in this thread).

I will say that I transferred and have never regretted the decision. But I transferred out of my old school because I knew that it was the correct decision (I left a 3rd tier school for a top 10 LAC). I had very long list of reasons why I wanted to transfer. You, on the other hand, seem not to have such a long list of reasons.

Thank you all for those who have gave me your input. I’m going to try to get the position again for next year and see what happens from there. Like you all basically said, I don’t t think the move is for me just yet.
