Transferring second semester sophmore, Possible? No?

I think it is really too late to transfer to another school as it is almost July. But is it plausible, and with my crappy 3.2gpa where would I end up?

I don't know this whole situation is hard to explain. I made a lot great friends at my current school but I feel that is the only thing keeping me at the school, that and the major im in is very selective and a lot folks would kill to be in the program.

See this problem stemmed back in HS where I did not know truly what I wanted to do. I liked the idea of finance, but I also enjoy history, literature, and technology. Those are my interests, but I didn't know how to fathom that into a particular major. I also did not (well my parents especially) believe in an Undecided major. I knew two definite things though:

I wanted to go to suburban/rural school (No city schools)

I wanted to be away from home.

SO my parents coaxed me to apply to Cornell (anthropology), Uconn (biology), NYU (Stern), and Northeastern (PharmD).

I ended up going to Northeastern cause I got PharmD (Cornell rejected, and parents hate Stern due to bad economy nowadays). I've been OK with NEU, the day-to-day responsibilites of school masked the bad (being a city school, stale under 21+ social life, and the science-oriented major).

But now seeing other kids I know who were unhappy with their situation transferring to schools of their desire, I feel sullen, and wish to explore my potential transfer opportunities.

HS GPA: 3.6 (Unweighted)
Ethnicity: African American (I know it probably helped me in HS apps, but probably futile now.)
SAT: 1860
College GPA: 3.2
Major: Doctor of Pharmacy (6+0)

Transfer Major? : Probably something with marketable flexibility. I do not want to be trapped in one particular realm (Such as pharmacy).
Major: Finance, Business -- w/Science-orientated minor.

** My parents will NOT be O.K with paying any tuition higher or even equal to what we are paying now. They don't believe in paying for normal college majors, only professional ones like Engineering, Pharmacy, etc. *** (So...damn.)

Well first off how much are you paying for northeastern? I am actually pretty suprised you got into a 6 year pharm program as a freshmen with your hs stats. I assume you are trying to “transfer up” to a more “prestigous school”. therefore I would recommend finishing up your sophomore year at northeastern in order to raise your gpa. Unless I misread your title and you currently finished your second semester of sophomore year and will be an incoming junior that missed most of the deadlines for the fall of 2012 transfer. In that case you can either take time of and apply for the spring semester or fall of 2013 or continue classes at northeastern although most schools will not accept more than 2 years of credit at your current school. It is going to be difficult for you to get accepted into a prestigous business school as a transfer especially with your current college GPA. I would have suggested Lehigh but that may be slighty out of your reach grade wise but maybe even look into the University of Maryland CP Business school called Smith. Penn State and Illinois would come to mind but i am unsure how hard it is to transfer into their business schools.

Hi, thank you for your comment.

I put Second Semester Soph, because I thought transferring in the summer is implausible. I thought I’d have to apply Christmas Break of sophomore year

On topic: Oh I am a freshman, I just completed one full year at school, going onto my second year. Yeah I am trying to I guess go to a more “prestigious” school, if I am to change majors I would almost be required to, I feel.

Boosting my GPA correct? It is going to be tough as I take very demanding courses this fall (Orgo, etc.) '

But I assume it would look better if muster out a 3.5+ in these highly science oriented courses?

PS: Not to sound insecure or anything but I too was surprised at many of my college acceptances. But the admission-game is a weird one.

Haha no problem don’t worry the schools and programs that accepted you clearly found something that they liked about you! Ok this makes alot more sense that you are an incoming sophomore. I would recommend you apply for transfer as an incoming junior for the fall of 2013. You are correct that you would be finishing up most of your applications around christmas break since most of them are due in the early spring. As far as gpa goes, you will definitely want to aim for at least a 3.5 in order to transfer up. I feel that a 3.5 would definitely help but a 3.7 would make things more secure alot of people seem to be transfering up with nearly perfect grades. So you are trying to gain acceptance the business schools at each respective schools? Transferring to a top business school will be difficult and since you will be a junior you would not really have time for an internal transfer if you dont get accepted to the business school at the respective school. I think for the schools that you are interested in you must look at the class requirements needed like the different econs, stats, accounting, calc and so on. My concern is you probably did not take many or any of these classes besides calc since you are a pharm student. I think you if had planned on transferring to a business school you would have been better off signing up for business requirements for the fall semester of your sophomore year. I realize you have a tough schedule ahead of you but you are gonna have to work very very hard to get those A’s because as a junior transfer the primarily focus on your college grades and a 3.2 is good but not too competitive.

Hm interesting. Damn junior year is so far off. Thank you for the info.

I think I will transfer into a pharmaceutical related major (Pharm Science) at another school, so that my class will correlate, then just business minor. I want to separate myself from the run of the mill business majors I guess.

Transferring is such a hard decision for me as I know a Pharmacy career will allow me flexibility to maybe pursue other paths (such as real estate, etc).

Also I see that you tried to transfer aswell. Which schools did you look at? And do any of them seem plausible for someone of my statistics?

Oo ok I though you wanted to completely change to Business. Honestly, if i was you it would be a very difficult choice to leave a 6 year pharm program. Once you get a pharmD you are basically set. I am also considering transfering and finished my first year with the plans of attending my current school for the next year then transfering as an incoming junior. I am pretty much looking at small selective privates and top liberal arts schools that are good in the political science/international field.

Try Georgia Tech. I know its campus is widely considered “urban,” but in actuality it has its own green campus on the edge of downtown Atlanta.

this thread is really old, but i’m curious as to what you decided to do?
