I am currently a rising senior at VCU and am on track to graduate in May of 2015. Right at the end of finals, one of my best friends and roommates passed away and it has been a very difficult time for me. I would prefer to spend time around my family and friend back at home which is near GMU. I wanted to know how plausible it would be to transfer for my senior year to GMU, I am roughly 95% with my degree at VCU and am taking several classes to meet the requirements for my degree. Any suggestions would help. If it is not a good idea to transfer and if I should just suck it up, please let me know.

Pick up the phone. Call GMU. Ask.

Sometimes it is possible to arrange a “guest Sr. year” at another university (sort of like a year abroad, but just in your own country, and during your senior year), so ask about that too. Your home university would have to agree to recognize most or all of the GMU credits, and you would still graduate from your home university.

I am sorry about your friend.

It may be easier to get permission to take
final credits at GMU (or some gen eds at CC) and transfer them back to VCU, combined With taking some classes online through VCU.

Most universities require you to complete a certain % of credits at that institution to earn the Degree. GMU also will likely have
different Degree Graduation Requirements, even for the same major.

Start with your VCU advisor to see what the policies are at VCU. They also should be in your catalog.
