Transferring spring semster? Yay or nay? Please help!

I’m currently a sophomore at a local community college. I never wanted to be there but it just so happened to work best for me at the time. I am desperately wanting out! So, I have applied to colleges for spring semester. Only fear is I vaguely know anyone there, those I know are much older and I’m not sure who I’d room with or how that will go? I really want to join a sorority and get involved like a “normal college student”… Is transferring spring semester a good option? Anyone have positive/negative experience they would like to share? PLEASE HELP.

Your experience will be different depending on where you end up studying. For example, Happykid’s university had no on-campus housing for fall transfers, but spring transfers almost always could get a room. Joining a sorority will depend on when the houses at that college/university have rush. Also, the number of transfers and the strength of the transfer orientation program on campus will affect your adaptation. Happykid transferred to a big state U and transfer orientation was by departments. She met everyone else who was coming into the same program as herself, and right away had friends.

Contact the transfer admissions offices. Ask them about orientation, housing, sororities, and anything else you can think of. Contact the department you would be joining, and ask them about advising for transfers, and whether they can put you in touch with any current students. You might find a roommate that way.
