Transferring to a CC

I recently finished my first year at a university and after much deliberation between staying at my current institution and transferring to my state flagship - I've decided both are not worth paying for.

I’ve opted to transfer back home for a year at a local "community college” (they grant a few bachelor’s degrees). I am planning to either complete an AA or take courses as a non-degree seeking student (not sure if this would affect financial aid).

Anyway, I took out about $8000 in loans for freshman year. How will transferring to a community college affect repayment of these loans? Will deferment until after I receive a 4 year degree still be an option?

*I will contact my loan provider tomorrow (closed today) but I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this.

As long as you’re maintaining the half-time student status (at least), you don’t have to pay off the loans.

To be eligible for financial aid, you will have to enroll as a degree seeking student.
