Transferring to a computer science major without taking the physics series

Hello everybody. I am wondering if not having the physics series done even though its on the required list of classes for major preparation would affect my application severely. I do not have enough time to take the series if I am planning on submitting applications this fall, but I will have every other class required completed. I will only be missing the physics. I am hoping to apply to UCs and Cal Poly Pomona for computer science.

Currently hold a 3.3 gpa, but by the time I finish in spring I will likely have a 3.6-7.

@ucbalumnus ? Thoughts?

The UCs seem to have well-defined rules on transfers…if it is “required” and you don’t have it…doesn’t sound promising.

Even if they let you transfer without the required courses, you will have to take them after transfer, delaying graduation.

Some campuses have CS majors that do not require physics.

Assuming you have the 3.3 after 1 year of college, it sounds like you expect to get a 4.0 this year to bring your average up. If you are now a 4.0 student then what is different than the you 4 mos ago earning mostly B’s?

Second, keep in mind your xfer schools will not see your spring gpa; the last gpa they will know about before they make their decision will be your January update so your gpa (assuming all A’s) will be about 3.5 which may be less competitive for a CS major.
