Hi everyone, I’m new to the CC forums. I’ve read a lot of advice in the past from here and figured I’d try my hand at asking/answering!
So, I currently go to Montclair State. I’m looking to transfer to Richard Stockton University of New Jersey. My dad and my brother have been all over me about my decision. They’ve been telling me that MSU will lead to better job prospects (which, in all likelihood, it probably can), Stockton isn’t as good, and that I won’t be any happier going there. They do tell me it’s my decision, but it certainly doesn’t feel like it. Currently, I drive home every weekend (which is pretty far) from MSU because it’s so dead (which I know is normal for NJ). Stockton is a little closer to home, so it would be drastically less time-consuming. With Stockton, I will also be taking fewer classes to obtain the same degree (Marketing). The class structure seems to be more focused rather than the Gen-ed fluff MSU seems to have a lot of.
My question is, what do you think I should do? I’d like to go to Stockton, but I don’t want my family to resent me. I also don’t want to miss an opportunity for transferring to a university they both see as inferior. It’s a lot at once, and I would very much appreciate a second opinion.
Thank you all!
