Transferring to a school you were once accepted at

I'm currently a freshman at a top ten liberal arts, having turned down UChicago (accepted EA with merit) because of financial reasons. I'm strongly considering transferring, and I'm ondering if anyone knows if that comes under consideration, either positively or negatively-- if they keep my old application on file? Is it worth calling their offices to find out?

If I do transfer, I'll probably apply to a few other schools (at least Cornell), but UChicago's kind of been it for me for two years, and I already feel like I missed one opportunity.

Whether a school keeps your old application materials varies, you need to contact the school. I know that at least some schools ask on the transfer application if you applied before, and if so what was the result.

Since you’re transferring for financial reasons, hopefully you know that there is much more merit aid for fr admits, and that depending on the school, FA may be less for transfers than for fr.

So it’s definitely worth calling UChicago? I can explain family circumstances if necessary. They don’t ask on the CA supplement, at least as far as I can see. And honestly, if it helps at all, that would be great.

I do know about FA, and thankfully, our situation has changed much for the better. It’s less of a concern.
