Transferring to a UC/CSU with an F that is not transferable to a UC/CSU

I am in my first semester as a freshmen at a community college in which I am failing a class. I chose not to withdraw from the class because I won’t be receiving the ft3 financial aid for two years. The class I am failing was a prerequisite to a math class that I needed, but recently changed my major so now I do not need it. So this class I am failing is 3 units and is not transferable to any UC/CSU nor do i need it for my major. How will this affect my chances of getting into a CSU/UC? i plan on applying to CSU Long Beach, Sacramento State, and many others… Please help:(

UC’s and CSU’s will only consider UC/CSU transferable classes when evaluating potential transfer students so it should not impact your chances. I suggest you withdraw from the class if it is not needed or transferable but also not maintaining an acceptable GPA at your CC will effect your financial aid.

so I’m doing well in all my other classes, I have two Bs and two As. I must have at least a 2.0 gpa to be eligible for my financial aid. Would an F drag a 3 to a 1??

No, one F would drag your GPA down to a 2.0 but you have 4 other classes so dropping this class would bring you below 12 units as a Full time student for FA?

Not sure I am understanding if you are receiving FA now?

Getting an F in a class means you did not complete that course satisfactorily and will not be given any units so I do not understand why not drop it if not needed.
