Hey, I'm about to start applying to UCs for Fall '09. My top choices would be UCB and UCLA. There is one problem though. I'm trying to major in Economics, and have completed all pre-reqs EXCEPT Calculus. Currently, the highest math level I can get up to before transfer would be Calculus 1A. Assist tells me that most UCs with an Econ program prefer you to be up to Calculus 1B. How detrimental would this be? I currently have a 3.87 GPA. What are my chances at transfer? What schools would be considered safety, reach, match, given my current dilemma? Thanks.

bump? anyone?

Hey there

I would have to say that it would be pretty detrimental considering how competitive the Economic major is at UCLA. A UCLA rep. came to my school a few weeks ago and suggested that those applying to such impacted majors as such look into a major that isn't impacted, yet still something one is interested it. Then, if you get in, you can minor in Economics and still be able to do what you have a passion for. I am not saying that this is the best way to go but definetely an option. The pre-reqs for the Econ. major is probably different for many UC's so I couldn't really give you an adivice on the chances for other schools. All I know is that if your not set on Economics, since even those with 4.0 GPA's get rejected with all pre-reqs completed, I would give another major a shot.

Don't both with UCLA or UCB because they won't even look at your application if you did not complete ALL prereqs. You have a great shot at all other UCs though.

Would it be worth it to stay another year to get into UCLA/Berkeley? Or should I sign a TAG with Irvine for Winter 09?
