Transferring to a UC to switching to a very similar major

Hey guys, I applied through the tag applications through UC Davis, and I was wondering if I am admitted, can I switch my major to something similar? If I recall correct, for transfers it’s not really allowed, right now I applied through Economics A.B. but I have thought about Managerial Economics beforehand. I was wondering if I can still change once admitted, they’re two very similar fields without almost identical requirements, and requirements I’m taking right now in Community College which would fit both requirements for both majors. Also in the regular UC Apps. am I able to apply for a different major or do I have to stick to my TAG one?

Only Davis can tell you but at other UCs you can usually switch within the same department so I am saying I suspect the answer is yes, but this is merely a hunch. After you get admitted it’s up to the college and dept.

Managerial economics is a selective major, so UCD students in other majors who want to change into it must follow specific procedures to apply to change into it: https://managerialeconomics.ucdavis.edu/major/selective-major/

Ask the department directly if you have further questions.

Keep in mind that the link above appears to be referring to current Davis students. Yes, transfers “in theory” are current students but the rules for native (freshmen) students vs transfers are sometimes different, meaning eligibility for natives might not translate the same for transfers. I can understand you might not want to ask the department directly at this point and show your hand, so the best bet is to see if other transfers have done it. If you’re fine where you’re at you really have nothing to lose either way. ?
