transferring to a uc with chemical engineering

hi im a student in an Orange County cc I want to major in chemical engineering. I know santa barbara has a solid program that I can tag and transfer there I would like to know what would make a strong application to a top uc like la or berkeley
many thanks

High GPA + completion of all the major pre-reqs offered at your CC.

is that really it or are internships more important when student is at level with others competing for the same major.

Get A’s in major classes - chemistry, physics, calculus, etc. Complete your IGETC and you’ll be fine, don’t over-think it.

It’s that simple.

I just transferred to berkeley for chem e from a community college in norcal.

By GPA was ok, a high 3.7 (between 2 schools). I also did sports all 3 years that I was at community college. I didn’t do any internships or anything, although if you do it would help alot in getting in. It’s important to do something outside of school because they want to see that you can handle the increased workload after you transfer. Also, just make sure you finish all the classes on assist.org. IGETC is not required/recognized by most schools for transferring engineering majors.

Also, when I went for my orientation it was clear that they favored exchange students from other countries. I would say at least half of those for chemical engineering were in this category. I also noticed that many of them did not finish all the pre reqs. As a result, they had a list of 5-6 classes to take in the fall. I only have to take 11 units (3 classes), so make sure you finish everything you can while you’re at the cc

thanks for the info guys :)
