I'm looking to apply to some UC schools under a social science / lit / com major. If I have all of my english requirement (English 1A, 2, Etc.) completed, and math will be completed by end end of Spring 2012, do the school heavily take that into consideration? It's not relevant to my major at all, But I know it is an important prerequisite so I'm a little stuck. Thanks!

I’m pretty sure as long as it is completed by Spring 2013 it doesn’t matter.

When are you applying and yes they take every course into consideration because you will be required at the UC to take a math course.

I’m applying now to transfer in Fall 2013.

I read somewhere that UC officers see the Math requirement being completed in Spring as a detractor in making their decision, that it is better to get the important courses out of the way and just have a basic transferable course in spring.

This sucks if true! I’ve got math to complete in spring! Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks.

your totally fine as long as you complete ALL your requirements before you transfer! Are you considering TAG as a route of transfer?

I’ve answered a similar question here:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/1416784-if-i-take-math-english-class-spring-quarter-will-lower-my-chance.html

If you’re just taking your first UC transferable math or english course the spring prior to enrollment it can be looked at unfavorably by some of the UCs. Depending on your academic history it can be overlooked but generally the UC’s like to see you having completed at least one transferable math and english course by the end of Fall. Also, if you’re repeating the course for credit (say you took a W, NP, or >C) then you almost certainly will be penalized at some of the UCs.
