Attending University of San Diego this coming year (i think many people are getting tired of me saying that...sorry), and I would like to know if transferring to another university with more prestige and knowledge with pre-med, like oh lets say University of Rochester, would be a very bad reason? I really felt I had a chance at being accepted there but, i lucked out... How and what would medical schools think of that (me transferring)?

At this point, transferring to another college is still up in the air for me... I just want to know if it is really worth it...., financial trouble won't be too much of a problem...i think.

Thanks for the comments.

If Rochester is a better fit, then it's okay. But if you are only doing it b/c it has what you assume to be better name recognition, then I think it's a bad idea.

There are a lot of issues in transferring that make it problematic for the pre-med student, most stemming from the lack of continuity - you have to join new organizations, find new research, track down new clinical experiences, develop a new relationship with a pre-med advisor, and so on. And those are on top of all the issues a normal transfer has of new campus, new friends, credits transferring, etc.

But like I said, if you believe that you would be a much better fit at a different school and much more productive and successful, then I believe it's okay to move.
