Transferring to Any good PUBLIC school in Winter/Spring; HELP

Hey guys. I am awarded my free tuition to any public school due to my father's veteran dependents waiver. My private school now (Cal Baptist University) is costing me too much in loans (I can't get the Cal Grant due to my Waiver and private schools don't take the waiver, only public). Right now I am an independent, and my EFC is Zero. Again the reason I am leaving Cal Baptist is because I didn't know I wasn't going to get the Cal Grant. I expected to have it.

Extra Curricular are decent; I worked forever - as a server, then Bartender for since I was 17; used to be a successful child actor. I have a 3.6- 3.7gpa; I served in MANY clubs as well as student senate. I took piano, drum, and guitar lessons while now I am an accomplished guitar player and instructor and received SEVERAL scholarships when I was in a music program as a freshman (Before I went to Cal Baptist University I left that school and went to community college; mistake cause I lost my scholarships I won't go back because they're private as well).

Now I want to transfer to a respected school with good networking connections (I always dreamed of going to USC but can't now due to me not being able to get the Cal grant; It'd be too expensive). Most California public schools are beat up on funding and have very strict transferring rules due to the budget cuts (I know I'd have problems transferring because I have transferred so much). I am willing to go out of state, but I am foreign the decent schools beyond California besides the Ivys. Please refer me to any good schools that may take me for THIS Winter/Spring. I know its late but I'll apply everywhere, I have financial hardships so I have help with the application fees. Any advice is appreciated, I am looking for a good networking school so please let me know what you know.

It will be more expensive for you to attend school out of state than it will be in state. You should be able to manage with the waiver. The rest you have to worry about is books and living expenses. If I’m not mistaken I think you still qualify for the Pell Grant and some loans. I think you should do some more research on financial aid available to you.

Thanks amber; I do know that the waiver will cover all tuition (like you said though, just not books and living expenses). I will have the Pell Grant, as well as loans. I’d prefer to stay in the state but in California they are having a HUGE explosion of students. Most schools keep saying its too late to transfer and I have too wait until fall (For public schools in CA). I’m looking out of state because I hear the schools outside of CA are still taking winter/spring transfers. My waiver will cover all tuition at Public schools Within the country from what I was told. Again any schools that sound appealing please let me know

I suggest you better get the ball rolling because most good schools have already had their deadline. Some might have their’s for Oct 1st or December 15th. Only good school I know of in the northwest is University of Washington which is in quarter systems. So it is possible that you can transfer for their Spring Quarter which starts in end of Mar/early Apr.

Other than that I suggest do a search on collegeboard.com

Thanks Amber; I’m on it
