Transferring to Baltimore County

So… Currently I am at College Park as a sophomore. And my intended major is Chemical Engineering. I am not in the engineering school yet. I currently have a GPA of 2.2 and need a 3.0. Possibly a 2.5 or higher with the right connections. My back up if that doesn’t work is Chemistry, and I would need a 2.7 to get in a different school for this major. But what I really want to do is ChemE…

So I am considering transferring to Baltimore County, automatically get into the school of engineering for next fall and start taking my major courses. But UMCP offers so many things and staying their for almost 2 years now I’ve grown so attached. The school of engineering is amazing too and I just want to be able to get a great job with a high paying job when I graduate university.

I don’t know what I should do. I don’t really know anything about Baltimore County, so I don’t know what I will be setting myself up for if I do transfer.

P.S. - I currently have a 2.2 as stated before but by the time I’m done with my sophomore year at UMD, I will have higher than a 2.5 maybe even up to a 2.7.

You need to visit UMBC, and find out whether or not you will be able to get into the major you want there. You also need to have a sit-down meeting with the ChemE department at UMCP and find out what your chances are of getting into the major.

If you want ChemE, you might have to change universities. But truly, UMBC is not that far from UMCP. If you have a car (or a friend with a car) you can pop down to UMCP any time you want to.
