Transferring to Berkeley or UCLA as a math/applied math major.

Hello.

I've only been in CC for a semester and my current GPA is a 3.5 across 16 units. I have only taken a stat class however, am taking a precalc class right now, and will take Calculus I in the Spring. In the summer I will take Calculus II, in the Fall I will take Linear Algebra and Calculus III, and in the Spring of 2008 I shall take Differential Equations. I will possibly take two Physics courses and a Chemistry course if possible.

Berkeley only really cares about IGETC and the pure math prereqs since it offers a B.A. degree for both Math and Applied Math although UCLA has some science courses (such as physics and chemistry) as it's prereqs. Now I should be able to complete all my math prereqs except Differential Equations by the end of this Fall and so those shall be taken into consideration when Berkeley reviews my application.

Now I am just wondering, what kind of GPA should I aim for if I want to transfer to Berkeley or UCLA? Also, I have not done any honors courses and am not in the honors program at my CC. Should I enroll in honors classes this Spring?

Anyone transfer to UCLA or Berkeley as a Math or Applied Math major and can offer any help?

Thanks.

Anyone? Can anyone tell me the importance of TAP?

It will never hurt to take the honors classes at your college--however your major classes are more important so make sure you do well in them--I think most of the honors classes are humanities classes, so take them only if they help you out to give priority admission to colleges.

For example, at my CC, if i take 4 honors classes & 2 seminars, then I get priority admission to UCLA and many other universities.

A "strong" GPA for Berkeley and UCLA would be at least 3.5.

Good luck!

Are you sure that you want to major in Mathematics? It doesn’t seem like you’ve had much exposure to it.

you need a 3.8 and all pre-reqs done. Good luck.

bobby, You’ve dug up a 5 year old thread, do you really think the OP still needs a response?

Old threads are great for information, but please do not post on them and bring them back to life. It results in confusion when other members (eg. bearterritory) don’t realize that the thread is so old.
