transferring to Caltech

I have a few questions about transfer admission to Caltech. Does anyone know the general acceptance rate for previous years? How competitive is it?

What kind of candidates does Caltech like?

I vaguely remember Caltech doesn't care about high school grades when it comes to transfer admission, is this true?

Thanks for the help

Come on, no one knows the acceptance rate for Caltech transfers?

Last year (collegeboard):
3/134
(I think something's wrong with this stat. I guess this is only for 3/2 program..Does anybody know?)

Past 5 years (caltech site):
Five-year Totals Applicants Admits
Total 956 95
U.S. 2-year institution 310 31
U.S. 4-year institution 371 25
Non-U.S. institution 275 39

How does a school like Caltech view the importance of grades? I have some stellar achievement in math and science in my application. But I gotten a few less than impressive grades during my freshman year. (Due to purely immaturity) But later I improved to all As. And based on my entrance exam and extracurriculars, I've shown I exceed Caltech's standards when it comes to math and science.

I just wonder how much my freshman year grade will hurt me? Thanks

i guess it will affect the decision somewhat but i remembered asking a question about transferring during "Preview Day" and the admission officer (or financial aid person, not sure who) said that it's really hard for kids to transfer to caltech because of the diffuculty or their core curriculum, he said that some transfers have a hard time either adjusting academically or socially (since it's a small school)

I read on Caltech's website they send out notification letters in May. My current semester also ends at early May. I REALLY wish Caltech can consider my current semester grade for the transfer admission. The reason is because I'm doing extremely well this semster and taken a lot of key courses for my major. And given the fact my freshman year wasn't steller, I think my current semester grades can give my application a major boost (and also something of interest to Caltech too because it'll give them a more accurate reflection of me).

But the final grades for this term might not come out soon enough for Caltech to consider. Can I ask Caltech to delay making the final decision on my application for a few days so my current term grades can come out?

Thanks

i guess that it wouldn't hurt to call, or maybe ask ur school to send a "mid-semester report" by april?
