Transferring to Carnegie Mellon (et al)?

Hello all,

I am currently enrolled as a freshman at the University of Miami in the College of Arts & Science as a chemistry major. I did not do that well in high school because I did not take classes all that seriously, though I was in advanced classes. I wish to pursue a degree in chemistry or chemical engineering (I like math and science). After that, I am not sure although I am definitely thinking about post-grad, whether it be medical school or graduate school.
I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice or information that would make this process as easy as possible. Also, if you could provide personal or professional experience related to these colleges and transfer applicants.

Regards,

Roger
