Yes, it is possible. What is your stats(GPA, EC's) looking like?

not so great. i didn't study for the SAT at ALL and got a 1520.
my gpa is a 3.1.

i have activities, i'm middle eastern uh thats about it for my academic record so far. but in college i'm totally prepared to go for 4.0's and stuff. i know i'm capable.

unless you get a 4.0 and do some spectacular ECs in college, then I would say dont bother applying..sorry

your saying i shouldn't bother getting in as a transfer in college, just based on the fact that I did poorly in HS...

but shouldn't columbia care if my grade trends improve like crazy? if my grades go up and i do great extracurriculars, then they still wouldn't consider me based on my hs grades and sat scores???

No, I think he's saying that if you get a 4.0 in college and accomplish some spectacular ECs, that could overcome your high school performance. He just means that anything much less than that would not give you a realistic shot.

just to be clear: 1520/2400?

haahhaa yes 1520/2400.

why don't you retake them and study this time?

cuz..i don't give a danm about SATs. if columbia is going to reject me based on some stupid standardized test i took in HS, then i don't even want to apply there. its not my dream school, i was just thinking about it as an option

oh, i had forgotten for a second that they changed the SATs to 2400....

I'm gonna have to say that with that attitude and with SAT scores that far below avg you shouldnt even waste your money on applying. Columbia is one of the last schools that will be begging you or anyone for that matter to go there especially as a transfer of whom they accept about 8%. In this case Coulumbia is a very far reach and not just an "option".

You "don't give a danm[sic] about SATs"? Your grades are pretty lame too. Do you "not give a danm[sic]" about those either? Do you not bother to study for final exams either? Good luck getting "4.0's and stuff" in college (even at a JC). I'm sure you're totally prepared.

sorry ilovecalifornia (i'm from cali!!)- but i really don't think taht you stand a chance
i have fairly high sats (2100s), and a mediocre gpa- you must remember that columbia has only an 8% admit rate- i barely have a chance as it is, i applied as a "far reach"
for some schools, this is great- but for columbia, it simply doesn't cut it
have you seen some of the "chances" threads here- most ppl are like blah blah scholars/ olympic gold medalists
definitely take the sats again- even if you don't "give a damn"- they're important to colleges
as for getting "4.0s and stuff"- most ppl that i know that left hs w/ low gpas w/ goals of 4.0s in ccs rarely make it-- it takes discipline
sorry- i know this sounds kinda hostile
but good luck to you- i noticed you're also applying to nyu

lol thanks for the advice...

but you should realize that people who leave high school with 2.0's are just as capable of getting 4.0's in college as anyone else. my 'low' 3.1 gpa wasn't a lack of discipline.

i attend one of the best public schools in california. Getting good grades at my school is just time consuming because any idiot can do well in high school, its a matter of how long they can tolerate busywork = ) and i can't have any patiences with wasting my youth just constantly stressing over gpas, tests, admissions, etc etc

i made the choice of attending a CC bc it makes sense to save money and not waste it all just for the sake of being able to say 'hey i got into X school as freshman! aren't i cool!?'

i appreciate the advice, really i do. but you shouldn't say

'most ppl that i know that left hs w/low gpas w/goals of 4.0s in ccs rarely make it--it takes discipline'

ANYBODY can get a 4.0 unless they have the iq of a rock. its called time-management = )

Thinking you are too good for the material and the "busywork" is the first step to failure.

While you may be "wasting money" by going to an expensive college (which a CC is not), it takes away the hassle of having to reapply for transfer as you want to do now. So why not work hard to begin with and start at a good college.

Yes, it is "called time-management" and if its a skill you didnt have in HS, there is no way it will improve in college where distractions are a dime a dozen and the material is harder....and yes any idiot can do well in HS, thats why they look at things like SAT scores and ECs to set appart the idiots from the passionate individuals with brains. If you (supposedly having brains) did not choose to apply yourself in HS, it is hard to start from college and when the schools you are trying to transfer to see your grades and SATs from HS they will wonder whether you can actually apply urself in college because people dont go to sleep and wake up as completely different individuals who work hard and care and do well.

OH and IQ has nothing to do with accademic smarts....just felt a need to point that out.

Honestly Columbia isn't going to happen unless you boost your SAT to a 2100 at a minimum, and get a 4.0. The Ivies aren;t like the UCs, they are MUCH more difficult to get into as a transfer.

i'm also from cali
bay area though
do you go miramonte? paly? monta vista? monte vista?? :)

thinking i'm too good for the material and the ''busy work'' is the first step to failure?
your pretty ******* stupid. i'm not going to bother explaining how dumb you sound. it amazes me how stupid some ivey league students are.

hey columbia2002, I have the skills and the drive to go way beyond any rich nerd who graduates from columbia(like yourself), thinking your life is set just because they were ripped off in tuition fees, and graduated from a university with a good name. any pathetic slave to the education system with no social skills or passion can get outstanding marks academically, yet fail miserably in life because they're pathetic and confused on what to do with their life (which is my prediction for you, based on the fact that you come online and leave arrogant/unhelpful advice for others) maybe it boosts your confidence. nonetheless its sad.

face it. you threw away your family's money, just to feel good about going to a 'great' school a 'prestigous' school, etc. do you really think that a degree from X school determines how far people go in life? sorry i had to break it to you.

call me in 10 years and tell me where you ended up with your amazing degree from X school, still paying off your debt, and realizing you wasted your youth trying to fit an outstanding image of a student, along with millions of brainwashed students like yourself.

your far from an individual. your just another 4.0., another statistic, another foolish, arrogant bookworm who dedicates his life to academics to find the only thing he leaves for his children is merits and a degree from columbia. grow up and realize the real world is about you, not your grades. you determine your future by the decisions you make and the careers you strive to succeed in. success is 50 personality 50 education...

in the end, 2.0's and 4.0's are no different. the amount of knowledge that you walk away with from college, is on you, not your grades. and no, your grades don't measure knowledge they measure the effort you put into doing well in that class. as you can see, we are two totally different students with completely different ambitions. I come to this site looking for advice and you come here to make yourself feel better.

and no, i'm not sensitive. i can take the truth. for example slipper gave me his/her honest opinion and i appreciate it. your just supercilious and cocky for thinking your better than people who attend less prestigious universities.

as for anyone who did give me help, i thank you. i just got accepted to sfsu, so i've decided to go there, major in international relations, and 5 years down the road, make more money and go further than both columbia2002 and shraf combined. = )

don't bother responding. just let it burn your ego down and get over it. i'm pretty much done with this site forum

WOW.....

'ivey' << haha

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo HILARIOUS! a typing error.....rolls eyes go read a book
