I am applying to UCLA for Communications as my first option and Asian American Studies as my second.

I also want to apply to Berkeley too, just for the heck of it, but unfortunately Berkeley has a weak/different type of Comm department. So I decided to apply under English since it's a relatively safe choice (I love English, and I've taken several English/Literature-related courses so far).

Problem is:

How do I distinguish the two, if at all in Question 1 of the UC essays?
Should I relate my interest in both, focus on just one...?

You are in the semi-same boat as I am. I'm applying to Cal as a Rhetoric major, and everywhere else English..
Luckily, English and Communication are linked hand in hand, so you can always write an essay about your love of communicating thorugh the English language, or something like that. IT's kind of what I'm doing.

Now if you were English and Math, we might have a problem : )
Good Luck!

ur allowed to transfer with different majors? i thought all uc's u apply must be applied with the same major
[/quote]

In the application, they lets you put first and alternative major for EACH school.

And your statement can't be right, cuz what if someone wants to major in Business? Only Berkeley offers Business, so does that mean that person is only allowed to apply to Berkeley? :D

so what i'm understanding is that there isn't a way to get around the ONE essay for ALL schools format
basically i'm going to have to twist my essays to fit the different majors i'm going for.
