Transferring to engineering at Texas A&M/UT-Austin?

I'm a senior in high school and I'm trying to figure out my options for college. I was curious about how transferring to TAMU or UT Austin engineering works. I was stupid and didn't do well enough on my SAT to be admitted my freshmen year. However I was offered a engineering spot at UT Dallas. UT Dallas is a great school, but besides academics, it doesn't have much going on. I don't think I would want to spend 4 years there so transferring seems like a really good option.

Basically, I wanted to know if it's common to switch to TAMU or UT Austin after one year. I was looking at some course equivalency tables and other resources and saw that to transfer into TAMU engineering you need to have ENGR 111/112 completed by the time of your application. The thing is, no institutions have a course that's equivalent to that so what do I do?

ALSO,

I know transferring to UT-Austin for engineering is especially tricky so my question is, would it be better to accept the CAP Program and transfer to engineering while completing that or to go to UT Dallas where I have an engineering spot and try to transfer from there?

I would appreciate any input, especially if it's from someone who has been through these transfer processes or knows someone who has.

Thanks!

Hey! I’m actually at UT now, transferring to TAMU. I know UT can be tricky to get into coming from one of its branches (have to take specific classes, have certain GPA etc) but I have actually heard good things about the CAP program. You might call and speak with an admissions counselor in the specific department that you’re transferring into. I feel like that would be most helpful.

As far as TAMU goes, I think that it’s harder to transfer to TAMU coming from a UT branch, simply because the branches help people aiming for UT Austin. During my transfer process, I’ve actually really hated UT because a lot of my stuff for TAMU is screwed up. So, depends on what you want really. You could always go and ask TAMU what specifics you would have to get to transfer, but if you’re going to choose TAMU, I might go to Blinn or something that ultimately feeds into TAMU.
