Transferring to engineering

Well I'm going to LSA in the Fall as a freshman. Not quite sure what I want to do yet.... Lots of things thrown around in my head right now, engineering being one of them. Does anyone here no what the process involves? Such as prerequisities that must be completed or anything else. Thanks!

Well…being a senior in high school myself who applied and was deferred to Umich’s college of engineering, I’m no expert myself. I have heard from older students that went to Umich that it was very hard to transfer from LSA to engineering. I’m sure it’s possible, but you would have to be doing great in all the science/math couses you were taking. I’m not exactly sure how the process works, but I’ve been told by several people transfering from LS&A to Engineering is difficult. You’ll probably have to talk with your academic advisor about this. Good luck!

it’s not hard to transfer if you can survive in the engineering school. 3.0 gpa in the required science/math classes thats all that is needed, if you can’t do that, u can’t survive engineering. but i’ll bet half of lsa can’t do it tho.

i’ll say if u have less than a 700 on your SAT 1 and 2 math, it might be a little tough for you.

Go to the coe admissions page and look up cross-campus transfer. [Michigan Engineering | Admission Requirements](http://www.engin.umich.edu/ugadmissions/crosscampus/requirements.html) I don’t know if these guarantee acceptance or if they’re just minimums to apply, but here it is in a nutshell.

Transfer reqs for students in other units are a FYWR/English class, Physics 140/141, EECS183 or Engr101, Math115 and 116, and either gen chem or orgo.

GPA reqs for all engineering programs are between 2.5 and 3.0, except BME which is 3.2.

Also, you can’t have >=55 credits (junior status) completed.

…maybe because not all LSA students are pursuing a science or math program? Implying that they’re stupid or somehow inferior to you simply because you’re interested in engineering and they’re not is pretty unfair. People study different things.

people study different things. but we are talking about basic math/science classes. i’ll let you draw the conclusion, but i NEVER said they are stupid or inferior, you did. this “psychology majors are just as smart” argument has been used over and over, if anything, i think half of LSA people don’t have the work ethic to do well in engineering. If I switch psychology majors with engineering majors, meaning psych people major in engineering and vice versa, i’ll bet a whole lot more psych people will be flunking engineering. do you agree with that much?
