I am very set on transferring to film school, preferably USC or UCLA. I know that these two film schools are INCREDIBLY competitive and extremely hard to get into, but I have to try. Any help, tips, advice, etc. would be more than helpful, especially on how to make a strong portfolio, I don't even really know where to start. Any help at all would be most appreciated!!

Start with reading the websites for the film programs at those schools. They will tell you what a film school applicant needs to have. If they say you need an essay, then it will need to be a great essay. If they say recs, they’ll need to be great recs, etc.

Have you already made some films? If so, get them entered into some festivals and contests and try to win some awards. If you have participated in a variety of creative endeavors, that seems to strengthen an application. They like creativity a lot.

Lastly, you need to be realistic. Just because you are set on something, does not mean it will happen. The other hundreds of students who are applying for those spots are set on it too, and they won’t all get in. Give it your best shot for sure, but remember, USC rejected Steven Spielberg. :)
