I didn't apply, but I might transfer after a year or two. I know the film school has a very different process than most...you have to apply seperately after two years of Gen Ed.

Does anyone know anything about the film application process? If I'm a transfer, is it possible to apply to film (junior year) and UCLA at once?

I'll ask the school, of course, just looking for some inside advice :)

i know a guy who did community college for 2 years and transferred directly into the film program and he loves it. hes working on his senior thesis which is a film project and hes graduating this year- so yes its definitely possible.

wow, good for him! that's cool i should give it a shot.

Mahdian, did your friend have an interview before being admitted?

thats exactly what i'm planning to do!

That's what I did, as well.

The application process is pretty simple, and is exactly as laid out on the dept. site (or was, when I last looked). You send in your grades and a portfolio, which I think can include creative work that is not written. I sent in a wholly written portfolio. Here's the info:

Two letters of rec
A personal essay (2 pages)
A critical essay (3 pages)
A creative writing sample (5 pages)

There was a brief interview, which I think is really about getting a feel for how well you think on your feet, and what you want to get out of the program.

Good luck.
