Transferring to George Mason with low GPA

I am currently a senior at University of Maryland, looking to graduate Spring 2011 with a major in math. After this semester I should have around a 2.55 GPA. I want to also get a Bachelor's degree in CS, but I've run out of repeat courses at UMD and Dean's exceptions for CS courses, since I had some personal issues my first 3 years at UMD that I'm just now getting through.

I'm looking to transfer to George Mason University and get a CS major there, looking for a fresh start, so to speak. I've talked to some of the people at GMU and they advised me that my chances of getting in as things are are slim, as their unofficial cutoff is around 2.85. I was wondering if it would be possible to go to a community college for a semester or two, hopefully get a good GPA there, and apply to GMU afterwards, or if that would still be overshadowed by my GPA from Maryland and I have no real way of getting into Mason, and should just shoot lower (which I'd prefer not to, if possible).

did you get in @alexvek?
