Transferring to Georgia Tech.

Hi,

I'm currently a freshmen in my second semester at Georgia State and I'm planning on transferring to Georgia Tech in Fall 2011 as a sophomore. My question is whether it would be better to stay at Georgia State for a another two semesters and then transfer to Tech. That way I'll be able to finish all the core classes at GSU instead of taking them at Georgia Tech, which would be much harder. Or would it be better to transfer to Georgia Tech in Fall 2011 so that I can get used to the difficulty, that way I'll go into my major classes prepared.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You will need to wait an additional semester regardless (the earliest you could start Tech is Spring 2012), so waiting until Fall 2012 isn’t really an issue.

You will just want to verify that your classes at GSU transfer to GT (not all will). To check, go here: https://oscar.gatech.edu/pls/bprod/wwtraneq.P_TranEq_Ltr</a> then use the pulldown to get to G then pulldown again until you get to Georgia State University. After that you’ll see a very long list of classes approved to transfer from GSU to GT and the GT equivalent for those classes. If a GSU class is not on the list, you probably will not get any credit for it at GT.

Then, you’ll want to go to your major department and make sure that you’re on track to graduate based on the classes that you’re taking at GSU. You can find the ISyE curriculum here: [H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering :: Undergraduate Course Information](http://www.isye.gatech.edu/academics/undergraduate/courses/) There are several “tracks” within ISyE. You might want to focus on the “general track” right now, until you decide how to specialize.

Why would I not be able to transfer in Fall 2011?

You have to complete 30 hours before applying. So the earliest you can apply is Summer 2011 and therefore the earliest they can admit you is Summer 2011. GT has a policy that requires you to wait 1 semester after admission before enrolling (they claim that they need the time to process your paperwork). This means that you’d skip Fall 2011 and start in Spring 2012.

Well, by the end of this semester I will have already completed 34 hours. The application deadline is February 1st and the document deadline is July 1st. Therefore, I will have my 34 hours in way before the July 1st deadline. Would the Summer 2011 semester not count as the semester that I need to wait for after admission?

I didn’t realize the Fall application deadline was in February. I thought it was in January.

You’ve already completed all of the Transfer Requirements? <a href=“Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission”>Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission;

Yes I will have completed all the requirements by the end of this semester, which is early May. And I will have all my 34 hours sent before the July 1st document deadline.

then go for it.
