Transferring to Kelley. Possible?

Hey all

I'm a CC student and I applied at Indiana, and got in. Although apparently that's not too difficult and the real game begins when you try and get into the business school. Although I was awarded 78 credits, I assume they are only going to let me put 60 or 64 towards a degree, right?

And how hard is it to get admittance into Kelley for a transfer? Major is Finance

Looking at the courses, some of them seem like one-offs that are unique to Kelley that make it harder for kids to transfer in. I would be doing 4 semesters and the summer session in order to complete a degree, if possible. I've already completed the first two years (associates) for my instate school and have guaranteed into the business school there due to a transfer agreement. I don't feel the school is the best fit, and am looking to see if it's common for students outside of Kelley to transfer into it and be successful. I realize it is by design a 4 year program but does that make it too much trouble to transfer into?

And insight is greatly appreciated.

If it helps, I'm missing the following from I-Core:*
BUS-X 201 - Technology
BUS-X 220 - Career Perspectives
BUS-G 202 - Business & Economic Strategy in the Public Arena
BUS-X 204 - Business Communications **
BUS-X 104 - Business Presentations

I-Core is generally completed 1st semester of the Jr year, right?
*Could take summer CC class to fulfill this.

Also, I got a C in one of the math classes (Finite) but made up for it with an A in calculus. Is this going to prevent me from getting into Kelley?

My school actually has an agreement whereby you take IUB classes online but you pay the in-state tuition fee. I may use this in order to catch up or take care of any troublesome pre-reqs. Anyone have experience with this program?

Thanks!

I’m a freshman direct admit (starting in the fall), so I don’t know much about transferring but I do know that you have to wait until after your first or second semester (you can only apply in the spring) to apply to Kelley. This means you will have roughly 90 or so credit hours before even getting into Kelley, so once you get in and take all the classes required for a finance degree, you’re probably looking at two years in Kelley plus your first year at IU. Here is a some more info on transferring: [Transfer Students: Admissions: Undergraduate Program: Kelley School of Business: Indiana University Bloomington](<a href=“Undergraduate | Bachelor's Degree in Business | Indiana Kelley”>Undergraduate | Bachelor's Degree in Business | Indiana Kelley)

Looking at that, there’s a max on how many credits you can have going in, but it may be different if you’ve transferred from another school, because it may be there to deter students who started at IU to apply in like their junior year, but I’m not sure. You’d have to talk to somebody at Kelley.

As for your grades at CC, I don’t think they matter on an individual class basis, since the credits just transfer, but they will look at the GPA you put on the resume you submit with your app.

Are you sure that you have transfer credit for K204 The Computer in Business? It would be very unusual for you to have taken such a class, as according to the credit transfer service website, the only schools you can get transfer credit for K204 in the country are Ivy Tech, Vincennes University, and Worcester Poly Institute.

If you have to take K204, which is a prerequisite for X202, it will add one more semester before you can take I-Core.

You are not allowed to take I-Core prerequisites online, even if they are online classes from Kelley:

“Because of their basic importance in the degree program, the following courses may not be taken online, by correspondence study or distance education: admission courses, business courses, I-Core prerequisites, and ECON-E 202.”

Also, ICore is a prerequisite with very few exceptions for all of classes needed to major in finance at Kelley. One exception to this is accounting classes that can be applied to finance major requirements; and other exceptions usually don’t apply unless you are in the honors program.

You may also have to take two 300-level social science or humanities classes or two 200-level science classes to graduate, you probably can’t get 300-level IU credit for any of your CC classes.

The “C” you got in finite at CC may really hurt your chances to get accepted to Kelley. That alone would keep me from attempting to transfer into Kelley. Having a lot of hours often does not help that much transfering into Kelley, because so many of the Icore prerequisites you can only take at Kelley, and the K204 & X202 sequence takes two semesters.

Are you sure your course numbers are correct?
BUS-K 201 - Computer in Business
Not K204, as you stated, and in the planner it has no listed pre-reqs.

Anyways, if the school is that absurd about transfers having a C (a C!) on their transcript then I don’t think it’s the school for me. I even buckled down and got an A in Calculus so that’s disappointing. I didn’t expect for transfer to be smooth to a 4 year program like Kelley but it might as well be impossible.

Thank you for informing me though.

Yeah, I meant K201. K204 is the honors version of the class. What class did you take at your college that transferred to IU as K201?

I am not sure if they will hold the C in finite against you. They might not hold it against you, but I don’t know who can tell you one way or the other for certain what the effect would be if you got the C in finite at your CC. Taking it at IU Bloomington and getting a C would hurt your chances a lot according to this:

Good luck.

Anyone know if they have advisers who will sit down with prospective students and run through the road map from enrollment to graduation? I’m OOS, so It’d have to be through email or over the phone, but so far I’ve found the advising section of some schools lacking.
